Final Major Project
The final Film poster prints for my final university project, 2020.

This project is intended to present you with alternate poster designs for several well-known feature films. With this project, I wanted to produce illustrative designs that not only reflected the genre and theme of each film, but also how I personally viewed each one. I thought to myself that it would be interesting to create something that simultaneously credited a film that was beloved by many yet presented us with certain ridiculous aspects of it.
I find interest in not only cinema itself but the communication towards audiences that is found through marketing design. There can be so much said with imagery and colour, that it felt important to me to try and communicate this myself in an alternate fashion.
Initially, I intended to create a series of rotoscope animations of famous cinematic scenes. I was inspired by the opening sequence of A Fistful of Dollars; the simplistic yet bold colours and cut out animation seemed to communicate so much of what the film was and the time it was released. I knew that I wanted colour to play an integral part to my work, so even after I developed my idea to a series of illustrations, I kept this central.
As I developed my project further, I began to take into consideration the time era that each film was released. I felt that this was to be implemented in my design since each time period is so significant and, with the correct attitude, can be presented through colour, layout and shape.
With this project, I also took a route into hand crafted typography. I hadn’t done much of this before, but the more I delved into my subject and design, I realised that it suited my overall style and the content of my project.
Below are a selection of development images, design, research and inspiration for this project
